Qihou Fish Harbor incorporates strong colors, consistent with Chang's style. At the same time, it expresses the kindness that exists within rural areas. Amid the blue-green sky are clouds that resemble swimming fish. The brick-red mountain ridge and rust-colored harbor occupy the center of the painting. The most spectacular use of color is in the depiction of the tide and fishing boats. The light gold of the sun's rays and the dark blue of the sea serve to construct a painting that is rich in sentiment and that is both simple and beautiful. Even those who have never been to Qihou Fish Harbor can almost smell the fish, salt and rust in the sea air.
