Li completed Afternoon in 2000. This can be considered a still life work. In the foreground are red tables and classic cups with handles. Along the white railing has been placed a vase with flowers, also in the same reddish hues. Following the white railing downward, the vast sea and sky and surrounding islands come into view. This painting depicts a leisurely summer afternoon in an island resort.
This is most likely a courtyard overlooking the water before the rush of people. This charming waterside leisurely landscape can be found in several places around Taiwan, such as in Tamsui, Jiufen, Keelung and Kaohsiung.
