The night-blooming cereus shuns bright light. In the course of one night it bursts into bloom and releases its perfume-like fragrance and beauty. Shih transformed these blossoms from their usual concealment under the moonlight into the most eye-catching main characters of a stage play. He captured the most beautiful moment in the very short lifespan of these blossoms. This remarkedly lifelike scene is preserved in this painting. The withered yellow night and leaves are interwoven, serving to enhance the beauty of these snowy white blossoms
