Liao Chi-Chun(1902-1976)
Oil Painting
1970
Length:101 x Width:109 (cm)
This work features blue and white color blocks and symbol-like lines, presenting a bright and lively scene. If you observe it in detail, you can see flowers, plants and trees among the many dwellings. The colors include blue, green, and gray with a bit of red to break up the monotony of the blue hues.
In 1962, Liao was invited to the US to observe the fine arts scene there. Upon his return, he began creating semi-abstract works. His brushstrokes became more expressive and unrestrained, as did his use of colors. His later works not only possess a sense of rhythm, but also an abstract poetic quality. In his later years, he came to clearly understand the world of color. His works blended innocence and harmony. Decorative hues and textures, as well as lines and forms, gave his paintings balance and harmony, revealing this artist's interpretation of beauty.
