Tamsui in Spring

Ho Chao-Chu (1931-)

Oil Painting

1994

Length:60.5 x Width:72.5 (cm)

Tamsui in Spring was completed by this artist in 1994 at the age of 63. Blocks and bright colors serve to divide up the scene. The brushstrokes are strong and the use of colors distinct, creating the illusion of a transparent atmosphere. The combination of dots, lines and other aspects, give this painting life. Viewers can feel the warm sun of subtropical Taiwan, as well as its customs and practices.
Ho's oil paintings were influenced by the separation of different parts of the scene and geometrical construction of Pablo Picasso's Cubism. The landscapes that Ho creates appear to be abstract with large color blocks. These were important elements of Ho's style
