Kinmen Series (Pursuit), (Hilltop Radar Station), (Kinmen Taking Off)

Su Jen-Ming (1950-0)

Watercolor

2000~2015

Length:104 x Width:57 (cm)

Pursuit
Tepid sunllight illuminates the green
land. There are no longer tanks or
battlefield trenches here. Instead,
backpackers pass by on bicycles on their
way to the sorghum fields
Hilltop Radar Station
During the time of skirmishes across the
Taiwan Strait, this radar station was like
the antenna of Taiwu Mountain,
protecting the residents of Kinmen.
Kinmen Taking Off
Both Kinmen and Little Kinmen were
places of military conflict for many years.
Following the lifting of restrictions and
the opening up of these areas for tourism, they became ecotourism destinations, allowing these two offshore islands to take off like a butterfly in flight.
In 2000, this artist began working on a research project on Kinmen, and was invited to spend time there as an artist-in-residence. He created this series which combines esthetics with cultural and historical views. Kuo Bor-Jou, a professor in the Department of Arts & Design of National Taipei University of Education, once said that, "Since his retirement in 2014, Su Jen-Ming does not seek form, but rather meaning. He infuses simple scenes with rich culture and thought, providing the rationalization for intellectuals to wax nostalgic for their hometowns."
