Vast, flat and golden yellow rice paddies and purplish blue buildings cannot compete with the eye-catching flame trees in bloom. Under the clear skies and cruel heat of this island's summers, these trees will blossom for a long period. They can be seen everywhere from north to south. Due to differences in temperature between regions, these flowers vary in color from warm orange to bright red. From above, this looks like a beautiful summer scene with the interweaving of gold, orange and crimson red. Following the summer season, the falling petals of these flowers appear like butterflies and a part of Taiwan's collective memories, and remind many Taiwan of their bright and resplendent youth.
