Taipei Grand Mosque in Autumn

Lee Tai Yuan (1949)

Oil Painting

2003

Length:50 x Width:60.5 (cm)

This painting, Taipei Grand Mosque in Autumn depicted this structure from under the shade in Daan Park across the street. The trees along the pedestrian island and sidewalk are eye-catching. In subtropical Taiwan in which the four seasons are not very distinct, the trees with the red and golden leaves point to this being autumn.
Lee creates landscape paintings using the palette knife method, switching between long blade and short blade knives. By scraping and smearing, layers become compressed, creating an overall effect in this portrayal of a scenic landscape.
