Guanyin Mountain is a scenic spot of Tamsui and a popular subject among artists in northern Taiwan. Among the series of works depicting Guanyin Mountain left behind by Liao, this one is unique in its use of cool colors. Bright color blocks are used to depict the distant mountains, water and riverbank. This artist carefreely expressed his subjective appreciation of beauty, without paying attention to the relationship between time and distance. The riotous colors are like unrestrained musical notes that are actually well controlled, with a rhythm to their interactions.
If colors can be considered musical notes, then Liao is a conductor. Blue, green and white enhance the brightness of the river. Guanyin Mountain is depicted with many color variations. To the eye-catching indigo background are added green and red, resembling a lively melody, that follows the dance of this artist's brushstrokes. The mountains in the distance, the river and the boats along the riverbank, present the leisurely and romantic atmosphere of early Tamsui.
