The Bitan Scenic Area is located near the Xindian MRT Station. It is one of the recreational areas that Taipei residents flock to on weekends and holidays. The afternoon sun is pleasantly warm. A number of rowboats are docked along the bank, with almost no one out on the water. This artist faithfully recorded the rich scenery including the boat jetty, Xindian River, suspension bridge and pavilion. It has been more than 20 years since this painting was completed. Since then, there have been changes brought about by modern development and convenient access to the MRT.
This painting, Scene From Bitan, was completed by this artist at the age of 49. In this work, he initiated the use of a new painting theory, referred to as Post-Cubism, in which there are spaces with multiple quadrants and overlapping visual angles. The result is a dynamic visual effect. He has become one of the leaders in the discourse on Post-Cubism theory.
