Pengjia Islet and Mianhua Islet were once breeding grounds for albatrosses, the world's largest seabirds. Their wingspan can reach up to three meters. In spring and winter they can be seen on Taiwan's offshore islands and islets. During their reproductive season, they come onshore and nest in groups among the grottoes. The male and female birds take turns incubating the eggs. The bills of the two albatrosses touch, creating an intimate scene. The albatross on the left is stationary, while the one on the right is in the air flapping its wings. This creates a vivid scene.
Liaw most often paints seascapes, birds and fish. His brushstrokes are strong and rough, giving his paintings vitality. He does not depend so much on skill, as on his character, to bring out the spirit of his paintings. In terms of creating texture, he extracts the essence of simplicity.
