　　This artist used print-like blocks of color with flat color stacking to present the red sun and golden light shining on the blue-green sea below. In the lower left corner of this painting are traditional fishing boats of the indigenous people of Lanyu (Orchid Island) with white background and human figure motif. These symbolize the traditional knowledge of these people. A fisherman is seen standing on the beach with his back to the setting sun. This brings to mind the difficulty of preserving the precious Yami (Tao) culture.
　　 From 1950, Yen gradually gravitated toward certain subjects. This work is one in which he called on people to protect the natural environment of Lanyu.
