The sun is setting on this village in the foothills, causing long shadows to extend out from passersby. The houses with red-tiled roofs and white walls seem to be floodlit by the sun’s rays. The mountain peak appears to be working hard to prop up the blue sky, and the white clouds to be accompanying the summer sun as it slows its pace.
This artist, who was in his seventies when this work was completed, intensively observed this seasonal feel of Kenting. With the use of his brushes, he set apart the green hills, and ingeniously contrasted the dark shadows of passerby with the white walls of the houses. This painting seems to be declaring that, “The summer sun is descending in southern Taiwan.”
