A woolen textile is placed on the table. Pink roses are arranged in a blue vase. Next to this is a bamboo basket filled with apples. This scene possesses the warmth of home. Several of the apples have fallen out of the basket, their reflections cast onto the vase. There are connections and correspondence among the objects.
Hsia makes excellent use of oil pigments to create a satiated, rich look. He also exquisitely presents the luster of objects, as well as emphasizes lighting and texture. This scene is so lifelike, it is almost as if you can smell the aroma of the flowers and fruit, as well as feel the wool and wood.
