Wu Long-Rong (1935-)
Oil Painting
1996
Length:60 x Width:72.5 (cm)
This painting, Deer Gathering, was completed by Wu in 1991 at the age of 44. He made use of a unique curved line technique to divide up the scene, as well as a palette knife to substitute for a paint brush. He created separation through layering of color intensities. This gives the subject, the deer, a rhythmic esthetic. Although animals are the theme of this work, it reveals the spirit of cultural and natural preservation, as well as Eastern philosophical meaning.
