This is a depiction of Chishang Township of Taitung County, located below the Coastal Mountain Range. Around the Lunar New Year, fields are filled with golden yellow rape flowers, which provide the land with rich nutrients. This is a common scenic landscape in Taiwan's farming communities before the Lunar New Year. This artist is in the habit of using a wide perspective in the composition of her paintings to express vastness. Bright colors enhance the vividness of this scene.
Although Lee was already 66 when she completed Sea of Flowers - Chishang, it displays a simple and tranquil vigor. It is just like the experience of growing up in a Hakka farming community - genuine, sincere, humble and with a naturally warm vitality.
