Mount Fuji

Umehara Ryuzaburo(1888-1986)

Mixed Media

1985

Length:40.7 x Width:39 (cm)

This work, Mount Fuji, is by Japanese national treasure painter Umehara Ryuzaburo. Although this is not an oil painting, the high quality of this lithograph has preserved the brush strokes and style of this artist. It is worth observing in detail.
Perfectly round contours and well-executed lines are complemented by bold color combinations giving this lithograph a simple, down-to-earth feel. This work also seems to be filled with a childlike innocence. Mount Fuji, depicted in this work, is considered a sacred mountain in the eyes of many Japanese. It symbolizes the perpetual national spirit. The artist depicted this very tall mountain that is difficult to climb as a benevolent and close protector.
