Looking out the Window

Tzeng Maw-Hwang (1934-)

Oil Painting

1995

Length:65 x Width:52.5 (cm)

There are a pile of books, scattered fruit, simple gray ceramic jar and bright red flowers in a blue vase. In this composition, these are all in the foreground with backlighting of the landscape. Exquisite use of light and shadow is what this artist excels at. Line of sight extends outward to the roofs of the simple homes, the flowing waters of the river, the awakening mountains, and purplish blue clouds in the whitening sky as the sun rises. The scenes inside and outside the window are connected and mutually correspond, allowing viewers to enjoy this beautiful scene.
This artist completed Looking out the Window at the age of 61. He prefers the use of bright colors and brushstrokes to create works that are both realistic and romantic. His perception of the world outside this window is projected onto the canvas.
