In the shadows at the foot of dark green mountains, an old farmhouse seems to sit in quiet slumber in a type of space-time void, as if forgotten. The black roof tiles tells us that this farmhouse was most likely built during the Japanese occupation era (1895-1945), meaning that it has seen more than 70 years of daylight and darkness. In the courtyard are scattered about various farm tools, as if to provide evidence of its past glory days.
Kuo integrates Eastern water and ink elements with Western watercolor techniques to create lifelike scenes. His artistic conceptions are vivid and ingenious. In his works, he empahsizes the arrangement of and variations in colors of the background. Using rapid brushstrokes, Kuo's unique style emerges. He uses the wet method for the background. With his sharp brushstrokes, use of colors and control of the moisture of his brushes, Kuo's works contain an Eastern artistic beauty and leave a deep impression on all who view them.
