Length:45.5 x Width:38 (cm)
Hibiscus Flowers was completed by this artist in 1975 at the age of 53. Unrestrained, large brushstrokes were used to paint the entire canvas blue. However, these brushstrokes were well-executed, providing differentiation between the table and vase. The blood red flowers seem to almost be a loud noise amid the tranquil blue, cutting through the night. This artist made use of rough, succinct brushstrokes to depict these hibiscus flowers, which an be found in farmland areas all around subtropical Taiwan. Although the shape of the flowers is not made clear, their rich color bursts forth. Strong colors form the base of this work. Through successful color gradation and exquisite arrangement, this simple space with flowers in a vase becomes a rich world.
