The Artist used low angle perspective to emphasize the imposing visual effects of the ships, and the workers stooped over or standing. The main background to the ship repair yard is the surrounding mountains, ocean, sky and clouds. This makes this scene appear expansive. He made use of strict composition and thick layers of colors, and had a preference for using palette knives. This gave texture to buildings and rocks. His works also featured lively blends of colors.
