Wu A-Sun (1942-)
Oil Painting
Length:38.5 x Width:51 (cm)
This painting is divided horizontally into two sections. The old residence, which is the subject of this painting, takes up about half of the painting. The white sky enhances the feeling of vastness. The swallow tail-shaped eaves and red brick speak of this residence's former elegance. It seems as if this residence expands beyond the sides of this painting.
This is representative of the large compound-style homes of the past. A gloomy cloud layer is seen overhead, allowing faint sunlight through to the barren courtyard. Although the year that this painting was completed is not specified, it is most likely one of Wu's early works, in which he reveals his affection for Taiwanese culture.
