The rays of the rising sun are clearing away the early morning haze. A group of women is hard at work in the cold waters of the river. They are squatting or bending down as they wash clothes. During the era when washing machines and running water were not common, this scene could be observed in many communities. This artist made use of exquisite technique to capture the details of light, shadow and air. He also revealed the industriousness and stamina of early Taiwanese women. From within their gentleness emerges a sense of determination.
Kung was a passionate painter of Taiwan's landscapes. He was adept at portraying Taiwan's rural areas, farm communities, and old residences. Through his perceptive and exquisite brushstrokes, he created warm images of people and places.
