This landscape painting, Remnants of Snow on Lishan, was completed by this artist in 1988 at the age of 62. This scene is divided into the yellow and green foreground and the indigo mountains in the background. There are not only remnants of snow on the grasslands, but also on the mountaintops. The positions of the white snow and white clouds in the sky form different layers. The greenery along the bottom margin is set against the vitality of the mountain landscape, suggesting that the remaining snow will return to the earth. This is both ingenious and inspirational.
Liu lives along a river embankment at the entrance to the Central Cross-Island Highway. Looking east, he can see the remnants of snow on Lishan. Thus, this painting can be considered a testament to the natural beauty seen from his hometown.
