Yen Yun-Lian (1922-2014)
Oil Painting
1971
Length:60.5 x Width:72.5 (cm)
This painting was completed by this artist at the age of 49. At that time, he had become a member of a Japan-Asia fine arts association, and was well established in Japanese art circles. The light and colors of the clouds seems to blend and flow like liquid across the beautifully depicted sky. These colored glass hues surround the silhouettes of the tall buildings, and shine on the rippling water. The morning in this city is this resplendent. Just before people leave home, the curtain has been opened on a beautiful day.
When depicting nature, artists make subjective use of colors and variations in light and shadow, blurring the boundary between concrete and abstract. This work is the result of this artist's long-term exploration and experimentation with space. The effects created are enough to take one's breath away.
