The Taipei Guest House was the Taiwan Governor-General's residence during the Japanese occupation era (1895-1945). Its mansard roofs, Greek gables, Roman columns and resplendent Baroque-style embellishments have all been preserved. This was one of the representative experimental Western-style buildings constructed by the Japanese. It later became a venue for hosting state dinners, government meetings and cultural events. In 1998, the Ministry of the Interior designated this a national historical monument. In 2006, it was opened to the public removing its veil of mystery.
The angle of view chosen by the artist expresses the dignity of this complex. Large trees and sturdy wall block this complex from full view. The sapphire blue sky lies over this resplendent building. In the quiet, it manifests its dignified and imposing manner. This artist is adept at using succinct composition complemented by mysterious hues to amazing effect. His works feature places and objects of beauty. They are dreamscapes that are full of life, harmony and romance
