Green Island Viewed From a Distance

Lin Hsin-Yueh (1939-)

Oil Painting

1996

Length:130.3 x Width:194 (cm)

This artist completed this painting, Green Island Viewed From a Distance, at the age of 57. The subject is Green Island, which is seen in the distance, above the surface of the sea, in the top one-third of this painting. It seems to be floating above the water. Backlighting was used to portray the large rocks along Taiwan's East Coast. These reef rocks seem to be strewn at random and are depicted in beautiful, illusory colors, enhancing the majesty and vitality of this scene. This forms a strong contrast with the well-lit sky and ocean in the distance.
Lin uses elements of the power of Nature to portray the magnificence, majesty and vitality of Taiwan's mountains and rivers. The canvas is his stage for presenting his feelings and his sentiments.
