Chen Chin-Tien (b. 1939, Sanxia, Taipei) graduated from Taipei Industrial High School. He began exploring sculpture and oil painting in the 1980s, studying under sculptor Wang Shui-Ho (1925-2019). Chen’s works have received honors from the Central Taiwan Fine Arts Exhibition, the Taiyang Art Exhibition, and the Taiwan Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition. In 2004, he was named an Outstanding Senior Artist by the Taichung City Government. He has been active in numerous art associations, including the Taichung Sculpture Society, Taichung Fine Arts Association, and Central Taiwan Art Association.
Chen’s practice centers on sculpture and oil painting, with a particular emphasis on stone sculpture. His works often blend figuration with abstraction, using solid, unrefined forms to express personal emotion and perspective. Fusion, a bronze sculpture inspired by his approach to stone carving, employs the cubic form as a foundational structure. Each side reveals a stylized human face, simplified into lines and geometric shapes. Through variations in depth, thickness, curvature, and direction, these features evoke distinct expressions. Faces are stacked and arranged across all sides of the cube—above, below, and side-by-side—symbolizing the coexistence and harmonious integration of different cultural or ethnic groups.
