Huang Po-Jen (b. 1970, Taichung City) graduated from Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School and has received numerous awards, including honors from the Central Taiwan Art Exhibition, Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition, Nanying Art Exhibition, Dadun Fine Arts Exhibition, and the Graz International Sculpture Exhibition.
Huang is best known for his long-running series Dog Notes, which features the native Taiwanese dog as its central subject. He views animals as mirrors of human emotion, and this body of work serves as a kind of diary, recording the artist’s emotional trajectory over time. In Entranced, Huang presents a dog in a moment of deep focus—mouth slightly open, tongue hanging, lost in its world. The form is rendered with smooth, generous curves and confident, flowing lines that give the sculpture a sense of immediacy. Rather than pursuing anatomical realism, Huang uses the dog as a vessel for human emotional projection. Through humor and exaggeration, the work conveys an inward, contemplative state—playful on the surface, yet resonant with deeper psychological insight.
