Fu Tso-Hsin (b. 1971, Taichung) studied fine arts at Fu-Hsin Trade and Arts School, where he graduated in 1988. He was awarded first prize in the oil painting category of the Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition before continuing his studies in printmaking at the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles in France. Since returning to Taiwan, Fu has held numerous exhibitions, developing a visual language rooted in flatness and dense layering. In recent years, his work has often centered on botanical and landscape themes.
In Fleur et Papillon, Fu constructs a composition in which the bright yellow blossoms of the cucumber plant emerge from a predominantly black background. Layer upon layer of flowers, leaves, and trees form a complex visual field, where swallowtail butterflies appear intermittently. The interplay between saturated color and shifting levels of clarity gives the painting a subdued, contemplative tone. Rather than emphasizing fine detail, the work focuses on spatial rhythm and tonal contrast, lending the scene a quiet intensity.
