Blue Fantasy Series

Oil Painting

2019

Length:162 x Width:130 (cm)

Liu Che-Chih (b. 1971, Miaoli) graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taichung University of Education. In addition to his work as a painter, he is active in both arts administration and music. He founded Tika Art Center in 1999 and has served as president of the Central Taiwan Fine Arts Association. His interdisciplinary background also includes musical composition; Liu was awarded third place in the songwriting category at the 11th Folk Song Competition and later signed with a record label.
Liu works primarily in watercolor and oil painting. His visual language often blends expressive lines with bold blocks of color, shifting between representational and abstract forms. His compositions are marked by a rhythmic dynamism that draws from both visual and musical sensibilities.
In Blue Fantasy Series, sweeping black lines dominate the surface, coalescing into forceful, angular shapes. These lines are not merely graphic elements but are treated as manifestations of presence. The work reflects Liu’s exploration of an alternative to Western pictorial conventions. Through the use of linear movement and tonal contrast, the painting evokes a sense of spatial rhythm that subtly references the aesthetics of traditional East Asian ink painting.
