Moonlight over the Ancient Temple presents a sweeping mountain landscape viewed from a distance. At the center of the composition lies a mist-filled valley, surrounded by layered mountain ridges. A few bare trees stand on the slopes in the foreground, while distant peaks are shrouded in drifting clouds. Although neither the moonlight nor the temple is explicitly depicted, the quiet, desolate atmosphere evokes their presence. Through a restrained composition and successive layers of ink, the painting conveys a sense of clarity and stillness, in keeping with the mood suggested by the title.
