Lin Chin-Chung (b. 1951, Wufeng, Taichung ) received his early training at Chiayi Normal School (now National Chiayi University) and the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts). He later studied ink painting at Chinese Culture University and earned a graduate degree in art from the University of Tsukuba in Japan. He studied painting and calligraphy under Jen Ming, Chen Ting-Chi, Lu Fo-Ting, and Chen Chi-Chuan. After returning from Japan, Lin devoted himself to both ink art and Chinese art history. His achievements have earned him the Chungshan Literary Award, Zhongxing Arts Award, and multiple National Art Exhibition prizes. He also taught for many years in the Department of Painting and Calligraphy Arts at NTUA.
Crossing Boat in Reflected Light is a pure ink landscape depicting a tranquil riverbank scene. Lin positions the horizon unusually high, omitting the distant mountains to focus on the interplay between water and light. A distant hillside appears only as an ink-washed reflection across the rippling surface. The composition is balanced between near and far: light brushwork renders a small moored boat, while drier, darker strokes define the bank’s textured slope. A lone fisherman works along the shore, his form mirrored in the shimmering water below. Through delicate contrasts of wet and dry, dark and light, stillness and movement, Lin captures shifting light on water and creates a serene rhythm in ink.
