Wang Chung-Lung (b. 1964, Taichung) graduated from the Sculpture Division of the Department of Arts and Crafts at Dajia Senior High School. He studied sculpture under Hsieh Tung-Liang (1949-) and is known for his creative use of found materials such as stones, scrap metal, and hardware. These everyday, once-utilized objects—marked by traces of human life—become carriers of personal memory and storytelling in his work. Wang has received numerous awards, including recognition from the Central Taiwan Art Exhibition, the Nanying Award, and the Taichung Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition. He has also served as a juror for the sculpture category of the Nanying Art Exhibition.
Child of Dreams is crafted from assembled hardware and river stones, showcasing Wang’s signature approach to combining found objects with emotional narrative. Using a welding torch, he created the figures of a child and a bird without wings. Their playful and animated postures evoke innocence and delight, capturing a moment of whimsical interaction. In this piece, Wang reconfigures elements of his past self into a fearless, imaginative vision of childhood—one that is brave and unbound. Even a wingless bird, in this dreamlike world, finds its own unique way to live and shine. The contrast between the industrial character of metal and the organic softness of smooth pebbles creates both material tension and aesthetic harmony, imbuing the sculpture with a raw, heartfelt sincerity.
