Wang Chih-Hsiung (b. 1955, Dajia, Taichung) began his career in business but later turned to painting. Introduced to traditional Chinese painting by Chien Chin-Ching (1938-2008). He has been selected for awards at the Ta Yang Art Exhibition, Central Taiwan Art Exhibition, and Provincial Art Exhibition.
This work, Boundless Affection for Rivers and Mountains, was inspired by Wang Chih-Hsiung’s travels in Nepal. While flying over the Himalayas one autumn night, he recorded the breathtaking scenery from the airplane window and later reconstructed this grand landscape through painting. A river—seemingly calm, yet shimmering—emerges from the snowcapped peaks, winding through mountain slopes covered in red foliage. In the distant sky, a faint moon glows softly over the terrain, while drifting clouds move gently between the mountains and the river. Wang adopts a distant, elevated perspective to depict the grandeur of Nepal’s autumnal mountain ranges. Vivid orange-red tones bring intensity to the foreground trees, contrasting with the pale snow-capped peaks and the darkening sky beyond. Using dry brush techniques, he softens the tension between warm and cool tones, unifying the entire scene in a single atmospheric effect. The composition reveals Wang’s masterful ability to construct both mood and landscape from his lived experience.
