Tseng Shih-Chuan (b. 1966, Wufeng, Taichung) holds a master’s degree in Aesthetics and Art from Nanhua University. He is known for his ink painting and calligraphy, and has received numerous awards in both domestic and international exhibitions, including the Central Taiwan Art Exhibition, the Nanying Art Award, and the Asia Ink Painting Public Exhibition in Japan. Tseng also teaches painting and calligraphy at the university level and serves as a juror for various art competitions.
Wings of Tomorrow is a surrealist ink painting rendered in a collage-like compositional style. The work centers on the Formosan blue magpie, portrayed in various dynamic poses—soaring through the air, perched on branches, or tending to fledglings. These birds are arranged across the canvas in a rhythm that suggests protection, vigilance, and continuity. In the lower right corner, a bird skeleton appears with a red thread tied to its leg. This thread connects it to a ghostly outline of a blue magpie with vacant eyes, hinting at an invisible link between the past and the future. In the upper right, a faint human face emerges, gazing down over the scene in contemplation. Through this assemblage of symbolic imagery, Tseng explores the dialogue between eras, life and death, and the interdependence of nature and humanity. The work reflects his ongoing concern for ecological preservation and cultural memory.
