Lin Jung-Sen (b. 1966, Wufeng, Taichung) holds a Ph.D. in Chinese Literature from Feng Chia University. He has served in various public and academic roles, including Director of the Changhua County News Bureau and Director of the Nantou County Cultural Affairs Bureau, and has taught at institutions such as China Medical University, Feng Chia University, Asia University, and Chienkuo Technology University. Grounded in traditional calligraphy, Lin’s artistry has earned wide acclaim. He was selected for the Taiwan Provincial Art Exhibition for three consecutive years, granting him permanent exemption from review. He has also received awards including the Ching-Hsi Literary Award, Nanying Art Exhibition Award, National Art Exhibition Award, and the Sun Yat-sen Literary Award.
This four-panel work presents two poems from Taiwan Chants by Qing-dynasty poet Huang Hsueh-Ming (dates unknown), rendered in expressive cursive script by Lin Jung-Sen. The poems reflect the poet’s impressions and sentiments about Taiwan. Lin arranges the text across four vertical scrolls, balancing the fluid momentum of cursive brushwork with thoughtful spacing and rhythm. Each scroll features two lines of verse, with every line carefully paced and proportioned. Through subtle shifts in line width and character density, Lin introduces an ebb and flow that enlivens the composition, creating a visual rhythm that feels both spontaneous and controlled. This piece shows Lin’s mastery of cursive script: energetic yet refined, bold yet precise. It also honors the poetic spirit of Huang’s tribute to Taiwan.
