Length:56.5 x Width:35.8 x Height:61.3 (cm)

Lu Shu-Chen (b. 1945, Xiamen) moved to Taiwan at four and later graduated from the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts). She taught art at several leading high schools and has been actively involved in Taiwan’s cultural and ceramic communities. Since 1980, she has focused on ceramic art, serving as executive director and supervisor of the Taiwan Ceramics Association, chair of the Sanzhi Cultural Foundation (2002-2008), and advisor to the Yingge Ceramics Museum (2004-2006).
In addition to her practice in ink painting, Lu is widely recognized for her ceramic work. In recent years, her “ceramic dog” series—rooted in her daily experiences of raising dogs—has drawn attention for its vivid portrayal of canine gestures and behavior. She often leaves the surfaces untrimmed and partially glazed, embracing the natural irregularities that reflect the animals’ lively and unpolished charm. The Dog-Faced Years centers on a slightly oval form, featuring low-relief images of a woman and multiple dogs. The dogs are selectively glazed in varying shades of black and white, recalling the textures and patterns of real fur. The composition suggests a personal narrative, highlighting the deep connection between the artist and her animals through the interplay of surface, form, and emotional tone.
