Chi Hsiang (b. 1956, Wuqi, Taichung) is an artist, curator, and cultural researcher. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions centered on Idea Art and has authored works such as Idea Art and Quantum Aesthetics Shuttle Theory. He has also participated in art collectives including the Central Taiwan Sculpture Association, Modern Eye Art Society, and the Visual Arts Alliance of the Republic of China.
Chi’s early works featured semi-abstract nudes, but he later transitioned to abstract painting. Playful Moments draws from the theme of female nudes commonly found in Western classical art, incorporating Eastern ink lines, colored washes, and ultramarine hues typical of Buddhist murals. Bold freehand brushstrokes trace the body’s curves, including the hips, waist, and limbs, while distorted postures and a chaotic background contrast with the expressionless figures. This creates a tension between visual noise and emotional distance, evoking a sense of alienation and solitude. Chi’s surreal, exaggerated style expresses a rebellious social stance and reflects his deep engagement with Eastern humanistic thought.
