Lin Ching-Ching (b. 1961, Lugu, Nantou) holds a degree in Chinese Painting from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts. His works have been selected for the Taiwan Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition, the Nanying Award, and the Wu San-Lien Arts Award, and he has earned exempt status for future submissions to the provincial exhibition. Lin previously worked at the Taichung City Cultural Center and now focuses on painting and art education. He is an active member of several art societies, including the Central Taiwan Fine Arts Association, the Kuo Feng Painting Society, and the Nantou Fine Arts Association, and has played a key role in advancing modern ink painting.
Lin is known for his mastery of ink, especially color ink painting. In recent years, he has fused contemporary aesthetics into his practice, expressing what he sees and feels through a distinctive personal style. A Garden of Stillness is one of his earlier color ink works. In the foreground, towering trees are rendered with textured brushwork, their trunks rising above patches of vibrant green grass. The middle ground reveals a row of low, horizontal houses, while the background opens up to a pale ochre sky brushed with soft, sweeping strokes. The upright trees and tangled branches in the foreground frame the view, enclosing the low buildings and distant sky in a dense thicket of foliage. The result is an atmosphere of misty solitude, evoking the deep quietude and isolation suggested by the title.
