Later, while studying in the United States, he seamlessly fused Eastern and Western painting concepts and techniques with his own literary achievements to create a unique artistic style. Critics believe that the success of Liu Yung's artistic creation lies in his literary scope and sensitivity, which make his paintings poetic and his texts vivid and lively. His works are considered modern literary paintings.
As can be seen in this work, Liu Yung uses innovative composition and peculiar scenic arrangements when painting landscapes. He invented the "Spray Dye Rubbing Method" to create a special visual effect, manifesting dreamlike three-dimensional light and shadow and the contrast of Yin and Yang, called "Dreamscape". In the theme of flowers and plants, his solid foundation from his student days in sketching from life is evident. He skillfully depicts the form, posture and physicality of the objects, showing the natural interest and vitality.
