Introduction:A set of commemorative stamps depicting key feats accomplished in his lifetime was produced and released on his 82nd birthday in 1968. Stamps of different denominations are as follows:
NT$1—Creation of National Army at Whampoa: Chiang Kai-shek founded the Whampoa Military Academy in 1924 to create the national army, train revolutionary forces, subjugate warlords in Guangdong and Guangxi, consolidate the revolutionary base, and lay the foundation for the cause of the Northern Expedition.
NT$2—The Northern Expedition and The Unification: In July 1928, he recovered the cities of Tianjin and Beijing and accomplished the objective of the Northern Expedition. In December the same year, northeastern provinces declared to pay allegiance to the central government; therefore, the nation was unified.
NT$2.5—Preserving Peace at Home and Resisting Foreign Aggression: In February 1934, Chiang Kai-shek in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, launched the New Life Movement to innovate social atmosphere and to establish a new spirit basis for nation-building.
NT$3.5—Victory over Japanese Aggression: The nation went through eight years of bloody war from 1937 to 1945 and achieved a glorious victory, the retrocession of Taiwan and Penghu, and the abrogation of unequal treaties. The Republic of China ascended to the international community since then.
NT$4—Implementation of Constitution: The ultimate goal of Nationalist revolution was to implement constitutional democracy. The constitution of the Republic of China was created and passed three readings in the National Assembly of the Republic of China on December 25, 1946, to become law. Chiang Kai-shek, on behalf of the National Government, accepted the Constitution, which was explicitly announced on January 1, 1947, and came into force on December 25 the same year. On March 29, 1948, the first National Assembly opened, and Chiang Kai-shek was elected the first president of the Republic of China. He organized a constitutional government and enforced the rule of law.
NT$5—Anti-communists and the Restoration of the Nation: President Chiang will lead us to accomplish the missions of restoring and developing the country and lay the permanent foundation for the peace and greatness of the Republic of China.
