Introduction:The pot's body is decorated with traditional Indonesian graphic ornaments, with all-over patterns. The pots, large or small, are only differed from each other in dimensions. They all have same decorative patterns.
Xiao Xilin, an overseas Chinese from Indonesia, presented, in 1969, this silver tea set to President Chiang as a birthday gift. The tea set is packed in a colorful carton printed with the words "Toko OEKON," "DJL. MADJAPAHIT M D JAKARTA," "=INDONESIA=." A red card inserted in the carton is inscribed "In celebration of President Chiang's birthday" and on the lower part, "Respectfully, Xiao Xilin, an overseas Chinese form Indonesia." Judging from the mark on the carton, the red card was originally pasted on the box. The silver tea set consists of five pieces, including a large teapot, small teapot, sugar bowl, set of spoons, and tray.
Indonesia, one of the southeast Asian countries, consists of tens of thousands of islands, is the largest archipelago nation in the world, and its territory stretches across Asia and Oceania. The number of overseas Chinese living in Indonesia reaches up to nearly 10 million people. Indonesia is a state, among the Asian countries, that has the largest number of foreign citizens. However, because Indonesia has a population of nearly 200 million, is the fourth most populous country in the world, and has more than 100 nationalities, Chinese people only account for about 5% of the total population. In the 1930s and 40s, ethnic Chinese in Indonesia, though suffered from Japanese aggression and the nation's poor and weak situations, fought their way hard and created successful careers and wealth in the country, leading to having a very important economic and social status in Indonesian society, but the local ethnic people's acrimony had thus raised accordingly, and they even became jealous of and attack ethnic Chinese. Perhaps, because under constant suffering and exclusion, Indonesian overseas Chinese's expectation toward the ROC were particularly strong; therefore, a large number of overseas Chinese returned Taiwan from Indonesia each year, from the 1940s to 1960s, to participate in the celebratory activities held in Taiwan.
