Introduction:Taiwan is part of Chinese territory. Since the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki, the Qing government ceded Taiwan to Japan, and anti-Japanese movement in Taiwan persisted. Since 1922, aspiring young men from Taiwan had rallied together to return homeland and participate actively in the revolution. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (Second Sino-Japanese War), many Taiwan compatriots returned motherland again to join the holy war. Japan surrendered in 1945. Our fellow citizens finally emerged victorious after eight years of the bloody war. Taiwan was ceded back to the motherland, and compatriots' suffering from Japanese infringement for 50 years ended and was freed. Since retreating to Taiwan, the central government has made great efforts to build a strong nation, implement constitutionalism, practice democracy, bringing about prosperous economy and good times for people's livelihood, creating an exemplary province of the Three Principles of the People. The year of 1985 coincided with the 40th anniversary of the War of Resistance and with the 40th anniversary of the retrocession of Taiwan. To proclaim the historical facts of the War of Resistance and extol the new atmosphere of "Resurgence, Auspicious Peace, Solidarity, and Construction" since the retrocession of Taiwan for 40 years, the new postage stamps were issued.
