Introduction:If the lines of “Straight down three thousand feet the white spraying torrent does run. Descending from Ninth Heaven, could this be the Milky Way?” in Li Bai’s poem “Admiring the Waterfall at Lu Mountain” captures the slenderness and majesty of the waterfall in words, the photographer’s work A Never-Ending Dialogue definitely marks the best image to respond to the great poet’s dashing and heroic poetic phrases American art critic Gerrit Henry once described, A Never-Ending Dialogue is just that, with its silver waterfalls cascading into - and all but obliterating - the monolithic structure of green-black rock that is their haunted and haunting source.” In contrast to what Gerrit Henry interprets it as the majestic momentum of romantic landscape painting and the eulogy of the heroic spirit of nature, there is an absolute oriental ink landscape spirit in “A Never-Ending Dialogue”, in which the color blocks of mountains and rocks resembling splashes of ink and the blank spaces scattered in Chinese landscape paintings. This echoing relationship between the two forms the visual counterpart to Zhuang Zi’s phrases of “far above the region of the clouds, with only the clear sky above”, “majestic beyond all things” in “A Happy Excursion”. It is precisely such momentum and aesthetic imagery of the work that makes it a vivid image art equivalence to the aesthetics of Chinese landscape painting in “Friar Bitter-melon on painting”, which celebrates the conception that, “is not limited by mountains and rivers, as well as beyond human endowments... an embodiment of all things in nature... both near and afar... realistic and illusory... therefore, the spirit of all things dwells in humans... otherwise, how could it be visible in shape... majestic in aura, picturesque in form, steep in height, -- a true embodiment of its spirit.”
