Description:By Chen Lei. Seven sheets, plus one cover sheet, bearing the caption "A Supplementary History of My Homeland, started April 2, 1998, completed May 18, 1998." The handwritten text is a mixture of Chinese characters and Romanized Taiwanese. The upper right corner bears the author's signature and page number.
A Supplementary History of My Homeland is a 270,000-character literary opus, a novel covering the history of the Pingpu Tribe southern Taiwan. The entire book is handwritten in the Taiwanese language, and flawlessly presents the aesthetic attainment of Taiwanese literature, highlighting the absurdity of the dismissal of Taiwanese-language literature by Taiwan's literati. Also, by writing from the point of view of the Pingpu Tribe, the book subverts Han Chinese centrism. It is an important work of Taiwanese ethnic literature.
