Description:Titled Formosa, this collection of poems imagines what the Portuguese navigators saw as they sailed past Taiwan on their way to Japan in 1544. It describes an island covered in trees and teeming with wildlife, the stunning beauty eliciting the exclamation of “Ilha Formosa!” The first two poems were written under the title “Formosa,” These are followed by two poems under the title “Taiwan Plains Indigenous Peoples” and a final poem named “Shuiwatan Community.” Lü Tzu-yang wrote these five 4-line poems during a visit to historic locations around Taiwan to observe the life of the Indigenous peoples. Despite being modernist poems, they adhere to the traditional Chinese poetry meter, adding a touch of musicality when recited. The inspiration for each poem is indicated at the end.

其他說明:本詩作以「福爾摩沙」為題，詩人描述1544年葡萄牙人在航至日本途中，見一島林木蒼秀，不禁高呼Ilha Formosa，此為台灣名為「福爾摩沙」由來，以此作詩作系列開端，全詩計有〈福爾摩沙〉2首、〈台灣平埔族〉2首、〈水蛙潭社〉1首，每首詩之末，皆註記詩作來源，考察台灣島嶼生成、族群生活樣貌的發展歷史，皆為四句詩，雖為現代詩，然音律平整，可朗讀亦可吟唱。
