Description:This piece, the property of Zhao Shumin, is the joint creation of her and her sister Zhao Shuxia. Zhao Shuxia, who majored in applied arts in Europe in the early 1960s, worked as a pattern designer for a Swiss fabric dyeing company after graduation. After joining the company, she drew nine patterns before finally settling on this one for the finished product. It dates to 1966. Later, she sent a meter-long sample of this cloth to her sister Zhao Shumin in Taiwan. Zhao Shumin then designed and tailored a "princess seam" miniskirt dress with the material, and started wearing it in the late 1960s. It was later enlarged and lengthened, and was worn until the end of the 20th century. By 1979, when Zhao Shumin wore the dress while receiving her first literary award (the Chung Hsing Literary Arts Award for prose), it had already become an old article of clothing with worn cuffs.
Zhao Shuxia (1931- ) and Zhao Shumin (1935- ), sisters well known in the literary world, were born in Zhaodong, Heilongjiang, and came to Taiwan in 1949. Zhao Shuxia, who specializes in artistic design, is a graduate of l'École Supérieure d’Arts Appliqués in Switzerland. Zhao Shumin graduated from National Taiwan Normal University in history, and for many years has taught at various institutes of higher learning. Both are talented novelists and prose writers, and have won numerous literary honors. They currently live in New York.

其他說明:1.此件文物為趙淑敏所有，卻是趙淑俠、趙淑敏姊妹的共同創作──趙淑俠於一九六○年代初期赴歐留學，主修應用美術，畢業後就職於瑞士之紡織印染公司，擔任圖樣設計師。入行初期，連續繪製9圖後才終為採用的成品即是這件衣料，時為1966年。後來她將這件作品一公尺的樣布寄回台灣送給妹妹，趙淑敏便自行設計成「公主線」剪裁的迷你裙小禮服，從1960年代末著用，其後陸續放大、增長，一直穿到20世紀結束。當1979年趙淑敏身穿此衫領取她所獲得的第一項文學獎「中興文藝獎章」散文獎時，禮服已經成了一件袖口磨損的舊衣。（趙淑敏識2008/2/5）

3.趙淑俠（1931-）與趙淑敏（1935-）為文壇著名的姊妹花，原籍黑龍江肇東，1949年來台。趙淑俠畢業於瑞士應用美術學院，專長為美術設計師；趙淑敏畢業於師範大學歷史系，長期任教於大專院校。兩人皆以小說、散文書寫見長，曾獲多項文學殊榮，目前旅居紐約。
