    • GDESC:性別：雌性成體，吻肛長：518 mm，尾長：105 mm。浸液標本。
      茶斑蛇全長最大約可達90公分，頭部前端略呈三角形，頭頂常有Y字型黑褐色斑紋，眼睛上方有明顯突出的稜脊，狀似兇惡的鷹眼，具後溝牙；體背面為黃褐或深褐色，並散雜有許多黑色細斑紋；體中段鱗列數為17列。
      臺灣特有亞種。分布於臺灣本島、蘭嶼1,000公尺以下地區。另中國大陸西南及中南部、印度、尼泊爾及東南亞地區也有分布。日、夜行性，喜棲於山區與丘陵地帶較潮溼的長草地、灌叢、竹林、雜木林或農墾地附近等環境；受侵擾時極具攻擊性。胎生，每胎次約可產3～10條仔蛇。雖具後溝牙有輕微毒性，但還不致於危害人體。以蜥蜴、蛙類等為食。
