- GDESC:性別：雌性成體，吻肛長：380 mm，尾長：47 mm。浸液標本。
  環紋赤蛇最大約可達100公分，頭部橢圓形，後頭部有一明顯的白色寬環帶，身體及尾以紅褐色與具黃白色細邊的黑色環相間，其中紅褐色環紋明顯寬於黑色環紋；於上頜前方有溝齒型短毒牙，具神經性毒；體中段鱗列數為13列。
  臺灣特有種。分布於臺灣本島1,000公尺以下地區。另中國西南和中南部地區、印度、尼泊爾、緬甸、越南北部、琉球群島南部也有分布。夜行性，喜棲於較潮濕山區的闊葉林底層或灌叢中，數量不多；本種動作緩慢，生性隱蔽，性情溫和，攻擊性弱。卵生，卵產於夏季，每窩約可產卵4～14枚，其餘習性不詳。以蜥蜴、小型蛇類等為食。
